Children and Young People are affected by many issues including alcohol and drug addictions, both their own and their parents; all types of abuse including self-harm; bullying – including from social media; suicide risk; care responsibilities of siblings and/or parents; trauma; family breakdown or transition; foster/kinship or residential care breakdowns that can lead to multiple placements often with detreriorating self-esteem; educational barriers; bereavement; and many have involvement with the Criminal Justice System.
A number of specialist counsellors – 19 at present – have been trained to work with children and young people who need very specific response methods to permit them to relate their emotional and mental health difficulties in age-specific ways and enable them to develop coping strategies and support them through changing and challenging situations.
