CRISIS was founded in 1996 as a registered charity.

Mission:

Crisis counselling service is committed to significantly reducing the barriers and exclusion in mental health care by providing a range of flexible, easily accessible and affordable choices in professional therapeutic services.

Jean Cumming, Chief Executive

We have a team of over eighty highly trained professional personnel with a range of specialisms including trauma and major incident, cognitive behavioural therapy, person centered counselling, and holistic therapies. These services are delivered from our Erskine and Paisley locations, in the workplace or on occasion through home visits.

Clients are referred from statutory agencies such as GPs, Social Workers and other organisations, or alternatively through self-referral.

We provide counselling placements to Counsellors who are undertaking Diplomas in Counselling, many of whom continue to support us post graduation. 83% of our counsellors provide their services voluntarily.

We collaborate with a range of partners to contribute to national and international research programmes being developed to reduce and eliminate social, political and environmental threats.

"...Senscot was struck by the commitment of Jean Cumming and the team of volunteer counsellors to provide counselling services to sections of our communities who may not otherwise access such services...in an effort to become more sustainable and independent by moving away from grants, they have now been able to secure contracts with both Public and Private Sector bodies. Crisis is an excellent example of the growth of the social enterprise model in Scotland where locally based social enterprises are now delivering first class services whose value is recognised not only within local communities but also by mainstream employers."

Aidan Pia, Executive Director
Senscot

All our staff, whether paid or voluntary, operate under the guidelines defined by the BACP & COSCA (Code of Ethics & Practice) and under supervision at all times by the Senior Counsellors.

Post-counselling evaluation systems are in place for close monitoring and evaluation of the services provided to our clients.
